This moving holiday show recreates the experience of attending a recording of a 1940s radio show broadcast on Christmas Eve during World War II. Using songs of the time and stories inspired by actual veterans, World War II Radio Christmas by Pat Kruis Tellinghusen transports the audience to another time, complete with old fashioned radio sponsors and jingles, live sound effects and an entire radio studio on stage. It’s an inspiring look at a time when the country came together showing our strength in the face of hardship…. a reminder of the importance of remembering and honoring our country’s past, and joining together to celebrate the holidays.
As the playwright Pat Kruis Tellinghusen says, “When I wrote World War II Radio Christmas I pledged to rouse memories that had slumbered for decades, and to prompt conversations between generations.”
This play does just that with plenty of old fashioned spirit and fun. And Christmas carols!
