The Land We Share tells the story of the complicated relationship between the Shinnecock Indian Nation and the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.

How did this iconic golf course built on ancestral tribal burial grounds come to be one of the pillars of American golf at the end of the 19th Century?

From the very beginning of the club’s formation in 1891, the Smith family, of the Shinnecock Nation, have been the groundskeepers across generations in this story of the convergence of the founding of golf in America with one of its indigenous people.

The documentary film follows two parallel paths: one, the Smith family and the Shinnecock Nation, and the other, the golf course they helped create. It’s at once the story of an indigenous people and the evolution of the game of golf in America.
