SUMMARY:“The Soap Myth”
DESCRIPTION:“The Soap Myth”\nJeff Cohen’s drama is considered one of the most important plays about the Holocaust by the foremost Holocaust historians in the world.  The play directly engages one of the central issues of our time – Who has the right to write history? \nFifty years after the end of World War II a passionate Holocaust survivor and a young journalist find themselves caught between numerous versions of the same story:  Did the Nazis make soap from the corpses of their murdered victims?  The play confronts the dangerous rise of anti-Semitism and exposes the pernicious scourge of Holocaust denial.  Ultimately\, The Soap Myth is a call to action:  as the survivors of the Holocaust die off\, who will be left to tell their story? \nAfter a critically acclaimed Off-Broadway run at the Roundabout Black Box in 2012\, The Soap Myth toured the U.S. as a staged “concert reading” featuring such highly acclaimed\, award-winning actors as Ed Asner\, Richard Dreyfuss\, Harris Yulin\, Tovah Feldshuh\, Jayne Atkinson and Johanna Day. \nGet your tickets here!

SUMMARY:“I am Arbesu” Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, July 5 at 6:00 p.m.\n“I AM ARBESU” film screening with Q & A \nIn 1962 as Fidel Castro embraced communism\, a Cuban ambassador\, his wife and three young daughters sought political asylum in Canada. Eleven years in the making\, “I AM ARBESU” by filmmaker Christiane Arbesu takes the viewer on an unprecedented journey. In true cinema verite style\, the reunion of a family is seen through the eyes of the youngest daughter of a former diplomat who defected from the country that appointed him an ambassador. Half a century later\, when President Obama opened relations with Cuba\, Christiane was finally allowed to make that once-forbidden trek to discover the family and country she never knew. What she found will break your heart and lift your spirits in equal measure. \nClick here to learn more.

SUMMARY:My Story\, My Voice
DESCRIPTION:My Story\, My Voice is a one-woman play and a true story about a young British girl of Nigerian descent who is cast out of her family home into the world of a children’s home and multiple foster parents\, only to return to the troubled home of her own parents. It is set in 1970’s England. In this story\, the main protagonist struggles to find acceptance in an environment of hostility and actual child abuse. The play brings into focus some of the struggles and pressures that might be experienced by children of immigrants in western society. It highlights the more universal experience of the vulnerability of childhood and the ways in which children are completely at the mercy of adults\, often internalizing all the misplaced messaging they receive about their identities. My Story\, My Voice reminds us that even in the bleakest of beginnings\, there is hope and even triumph (please see website for more information at www.mystorymyvoicetheplay.com). \nTickets: $25Students Under 21: $15
